Impression Series

On display in the store, I have a little show of my Impression Series.
Here is an example of  Marsh Grass.
I am drawn to the linear quality of the grass and the way it
moves with the wind. I  pressed a piece of the grass into the sterling to
create the texture on these bracelets.  The delicate line and gesture of the grass
is captured in time! This is a fun process because it is so
fleeting and you never know what you'll get, the metal and the
grass simultaneously move so it is left to chance.

Matta Scarves

These luxurious, soft silk scarves/shawls by Matta are here,
come and cozy up in one!  The subtle colors and the fun pom-poms
are worth a visit.  I carried Matta, many years ago in my shop.
Now the line is well known and collected.
It's great to see how artists have grown and developed over
the years and be able to be a part of that and support them.

Scarves by Karen Ford

We are excited to have a new artist, Karen Ford, from Westport, CT.
Karen took her first felting workshop in Quebec with a woman who
does costumes for Cirque du Soleil.
Karen finds her wool by traveling to Sheep festivals.
Here she is displaying her new scarves!
Beautiful colors in silk and merino wool.

The Sketchbook Project

So, I just stumbled onto this great project!   I am going to do it.  I love sketchbooks and the idea of an exhibition gallery full of them.  The same moleskine sketchbook filled by different people from around the world.  Cool!  Fill it with words, poems, drawings, collages, works of art, ideas, doodles, thoughts, worries, lists, goals, something sacred, memories, keepsakes, photos, something you'd like to share or not!!

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be bar coded and available for the public to view. Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project.

For the month of September at DeCordova

Here are a few photos from my show at the Store at DeCordova.
They did a great display.  People really liked seeing the drawings.
I hope to have more shows showing my process.  Thank you to DeCordova!

We packed the whole family to check it out.  The Sculpture Park is amazing!
I highly recommend it.  The kids ran around all day.
There are 35 acres on a beautiful landscape. The list of artists is impressive.
Here is a shot of one of my favorites, Jim Dine.

Featured Artist: Dina Varano at The Store at the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Musuem in Lincoln MA for the month of September

Just sent off a package of jewels to the Store at the DeCordova Sculpture Park
and Museum in Lincoln MA. I was lucky to be asked to be their
featured artist of the month! If you can, come to the opening
this Sunday, September 5 from 2-4.
Here is a sampling of what they will showcase.
I also sent some of my inspirations. Here is the shell
that inspired my Shell series of earrings and pendants.
I begin my process by studying nature and exploring with ink and charcoal making gestural drawings. Some of these will be on display too. Hope you get to see it! Visit http://decordova.org/store/ and http://decordova.org/visit/

Sailing

This has been our home in the last few days.
Ahhh, to be out there on the sea, watching the sunrise and sunset,
feeling the power of the wind and the mystery of the sea.
What a great summer!
