Can't get enough novels...
Susan Vreeland's novel, Luncheon of the Boating Party is narrated by Renoir and his models as he paints this beautiful gathering of friends at a cafe outside Paris on the Seine. Vreeland brings you into their lives and you hear their thoughts, stories and escapades at an amazing time.
They are setting up the table for his models before the feast which will be the setting for the painting and the owner is putting out their best glasses, and Renoir specifically asks for the glasses they usually use instead. "...They are made by hand, so they are irregular and have tinges of color. It's important to see in a thing the person who made it. I would think you'd want the best we've got. Machine-made glasses are a sham. The imperfections of handmade glass give each one a personality, a soul..."
Ah,so true. I believe the same thing. There is a magic in something made by hand. One's soul to shine through. I highly recommend another of her novels,The Passion of Artemisia.

NY, NY
What is it about the city that fills us with energy, enthusiasm and inspiration? Is it all the different people, personalities, their energy, their ideas, their stories? I love the chaos, the noise, the fashion, the crazy and mundane things going on simultaneously and the silence within the crowds.ps-Discovered some great new things for the store at the shows...coming soon-luscious leather bags, recycled coffee bag purses, to die for scarves and wraps, more hair candy and some outrageous feather accessories, raffia market bags...stay tuned for details!

Show Time...

It's so much work, making all the new jewelry for a show, packing, schlepping, leaving at 5:30 am, but, I have to say, I do love it. I must have Gypsies or Tinkers in my blood. I had a few minutes to sip my coffee and peruse the show before it started and I got so excited and full of inspiration...everything made by hand, all that love, time, tenderness, sweat, emotion poured into something and then to pass it on to the next person for them to add their own love, emotion, drama or whatever to it. I feel so lucky and proud to be a part of that world. So many things are made without the human touch anymore.
